Paul Stangroom Fine Art

Paul Stangroom Fine Art

Paul Stangroom, the owner of Paul Stangroom Fine Art, wanted some portraits which he could share on social media to promote his new fine art gallery. During the session, I shot several environment portraits and took some documentary-style images, which showed the viewer the process of a painter.

Paul studied fine art at the Central School of Art in London and Sunderland Polytechnic Faculty of Art and Design. After a lifetime of painting, Paul has opened his own fine art gallery in Prudhoe, Northumberland.

Paul Bio:

When Did You Realise You Had a Talent for Art?

I grew up in an artistic household; my father, Lawrie Stangroom, was an artist and illustrator. I realised I had the creative ability when I was quite young.

Where Did You Hone Your Artistic Skills?

Firstly, at home, being taught by my dad. By the time I was fourteen or fifteen, I was working on different projects with my father, then I went to art school. I’ve continued developing my skills ever since.

Who Are Your Favourite Artists?

Ivan Shishkin is a favourite, very much so – and Andrew Wyeth, Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, Samuel Palmer and John Constable. I like Constable more and more.

Can You Tell Me About Your Business?

I paint and teach from the gallery. The gallery is a showcase for my work.

Do You Have an Achievement You Received for Your Artwork?

I received a Canadian Elizabeth Greenshields award in 1973, which facilitated my travel to the Himalayas for two years. In 2009, I was a Royal Watercolour Society award winner.

What Are Your Hopes for the Future?

I hope to continue developing as an artist and to make my gallery a success.
